With the official unveiling of the iPad, Apple has released yet another platform for Glider to showcase its stellar capabilities and encourage e publishing like never before. Glider currently provides the best e-reading experience on the iPhone and iPod touch. However, reading books, magazines and comic strips will be a real treat on the iPad’s large screen and we at Glider are eagerly anticipating the release of our publications on it.
Anticipating the imminent announcement from Apple, our crew was hard at work planning developments and strategies for optimizing Glider for the iPad. Now that the iPad is officially on its way to the market, we are pleased to announce that our itinerary has been more or less finalized. The vision of Glider began with a desire to provide countless readers all over the world the best virtual reading platform which can boast of an unmatched array of features. At its infancy, Glider is already taking rapid strides towards those goals. Now with an amazing hardware to flaunt all its offerings in full, the crew is working towards a spectacular take off.
Over the next few posts, I will be talking about the new range of features that are being planned for Glider. Stay with me in the lounge for information regarding all new graphics handling capabilities and the wide range of books we are planning to bring on board.
Gliding on.
At Glider terminal, we always look to provide the best amenities to people coming on board. In the world of e publishing, innovation is as important as stability and Glider has no intention of falling short in either department. Keeping these in view, the terminal and platform are experiencing the rigors of intense development.
Glider’s latest version has done away with side-sliding pages and retains turning effects only to avoid confusion and give maximum importance to a realistic reading experience. We have also improved the soundtrack synchronization and implemented a few graphic changes. Now the cover page of a book can be accessed from the contents for a long and detailed view. We are working on the user dashboard which will allow authors to sign up, initiate a project with us and enjoy remarkable post production promotional support and analytics.
Meanwhile, we welcome the latest addition to our free offerings- “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s available for free at the App. store so go ahead and stay glued to the lounge as I bring you more info real soon on the development activities going on around me in the terminal.
This post swings from the awesome features of the Glider e-book reader to a view of the contemporary platforms which are catering to an ever-increasing populace of e-book lovers. The posts in this category will look at the evolving market for e-books, devices facilitating e-book reading and exciting possibilities on the horizon.
MSI, the Taiwanese electronics company is coming up with a dual-touchscreen e-book reader. It resembles a netbook and has two 10 inch capacitive touchscreens to facilitate reading. The operating system will be the new and improved Windows 7. There is no physical keyboard but a virtual one that takes up part of the bottom screen. The keys look large and spacious in the shots I saw of it in the GSMArena blog and typing should be a breeze.
The software is in the early stages so MSI still has some way to go with it. It will support multitouch and also pack an accelerometer so you can hold it open in a vertical position just like a book. It looks pretty thin but definitely won’t be as portable as touchscreen phones. There’s no name and pricing announced for it yet.
Looks like MSI is planning to give the Apple tablet a run for its money. I wonder if this e-book reader will be capable of other things like music and video playback as well.

Social media is flying high and it’s no surprise that passengers aboard Glider would be treated to the best experience. Digging into Facebook and Twitter reveals prominent presence of e-books and e-readers with people around the world wanting to know who is reading what and what’s facilitating the reading. Most applications these days offer integration with social networks so that your opinions, reviews and ideas can reach millions within a few minutes. What users want are seamless connectivity and a clean and simple interface which makes setup a breeze. Glider provides you all that and more.
A single interface takes care of your facebook, twitter and e-mail correspondence. Tap on “social” from the main menu to land on the networking page. Type away in the text box and send your message out to all your contacts. Enter your usernames and passwords to set up your accounts, hit “share” and your word is out. You can send out your message through all three accounts by selecting each and tapping “share” or you can choose any one account to reach out to all with your message.
Can’t get any simpler, can it? So now you have your favorite books and all your friends within tapping distance. Read on, share away and keep gliding.
One of the reasons behind the popularity of commonly used software and operating systems is the wide range of customization options they offer. We all want the freedom to choose how our screens and homepages appear and seek to blend style with ease of use. Glider, being the most advanced e-book reader out there, has one of the most extensive customization options available. From the font size and background contrast to line spacing and paragraph indent, we make sure you have complete freedom over how you want your e-books delivered on screen.
The settings are easy to find. Just tap and hold to bring up the menu. Tap the index button at the top-right corner and then select settings. You will be presented a sample paragraph and using the tabs below it, you can work on line spacing, text alignment, screen margins, paragraph spacing and paragraph indent. Observe the sample paragraph changing as you work with each option and zero in on the perfect look for you. Once you are satisfied, tap on the “book” button at the bottom to go back to where you stopped reading. The changes will set in all over to get you going once more in total comfort.
We are working on new features and enhancements to make your reading experience special. Stay glued to the lounge.
In its effort to maintain efficient service on all popular routes, Glider has not forgotten the little details that go a long way in making every journey a memorable and comfortable one. A feature that every avid e-book reader would want in a software is the ability to search for a word and locate it. Glider has taken that into account and integrated an advanced search feature that locates a word for you wherever it appears in the book and enables you to select a location and resume reading from there.
To search, bring up the menu by tapping and holding the screen. Then tap on the index icon at the top-right corner to display the contents. Along with contents, you get the search option which will enable you to type in the word of your choice. On hitting “search”, Glider will display a list showing you the chapters in which the word appears and part of the sentences where the word has been used. Now select the location you were looking for and you will be taken there. You can now choose to continue reading from that point.
Now forget about leafing through pages to look for words and phrases. Let the search feature fly you to your destinations within voluminous books. Happy gliding and look out for what we have got next for you on this great ride.
From time to time we will bring you updates on the e-book titles which get set to soar on Glider. This week, we announce three of the most popular classics which recently came on-board and have now made their way to the app. store. The latest entrants being “A Christmas Carol” and “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. From our lounge, you can access the app. store and get these timeless titles on your iPhone/iPod touch. The great novels are now all set to make you feel on cloud 9 as they make themselves comfortable in Glider’s executive class.
Music accompanies us in most of our journeys. A glance around a flight will reveal most people reclining with earplugs on-their ipods, mobile phones and mp3 players entertaining them as they fly to their destinations. Well, we understand the entertainment value of music and when you decide to fly on glider, you get to experience the awesome integrated music facility as you enjoy your classics and bestsellers.
On bringing up the Glider menu, you get the “soundtrack” option at the bottom of your screen which will enable you to activate music. Upon activation, a list of albums you have stored on your iPhone/iPod touch will appear on the screen. Just select the album of your choice and go back to reading with your favourite music playing along in the background. You can also enable soundtrack without bringing up the menu by clicking on the microphone icon after tapping on your screen and holding for a moment.
A voyage aboard Glider promises entertainment and efficiency and there is a lot more to come in both departments. Till then, jive away.
The most popular mobile interfaces today impress with their graphics. We can observe major implementation of animation on platforms like the iPhone OS and Android. The mobile devices prior to the touchscreen revolution didn’t really have the necessary screen real estate to dazzle us with animation but with touchscreen phones flooding the market, eye-candy has received a major boost. The objective of introducing animation is to make your screen come alive, to make interactions realistic. With the same objective, Glider makes it look like you are reading a paperback with the animations in its arsenal.
Let’s take a look at the page turn/slide feature. From the controls you can choose whether you want your pages to slide sideways or turn. On reaching the end of a page, the sliding animation makes the page slide out to the left and the next page slides in from the right and takes up your screen. If you choose the “turn” option, the page you just finished turns as if manually done with a finger.
Talking about ruffling the pages of a new book, the nifty glider promises to deliver the same experience on your mobile screens. Stay tuned for more features as we glide along.
Starting with this post I would like to welcome all of you on board and introduce you to the salient features of our high-flying mobile e-book reader. I will take up one feature at a time to keep it simple and detailed.
One of my favourite features of Glider is, well, its ability to glide. Jokes apart, you can choose to make your text scroll automatically if you feel like giving your fingers a break. When manual scrolling, tapping and flicking gets tedious, just tap on the screen and hold to bring up the menu. At the bottom you will get the option to initiate automatic scrolling. Tap on it and the text will change from “scroll” to “pause”. Sit back now and watch the book come alive. What’s more, you can select a scrolling speed that is comfortable for you by sliding the marker forward or back. Just tap to turn the page and re-activate scrolling on the next page.
Set your hands free to grab a cup of coffee as the text flows on the screen of your device. I’ll be back with another cool feature in the next post. Till then, happy reading.
